AUSTRALIAN ART

Since European settlement, Australian artists have forged an enviable reputation. Names like Streeton, McCubbin. Heysen, Drysdale, Boyd, Nolan, Whiteley and many others can be found in major collections throughout the world, and these artists have worked in a range of mediums.

Our auctions feature works from the gamut of Australian artists, both past and present, with examples of pastels, charcoals and watercolours and works on paper available as well as oils and acrylics.

Artists we feature include: Matthew Johnson, David Bromley, Jasper Knight, Charles Blackman, John Olsen, David Boyd, Zhong Chen, Cheryl Cusick, Pro Hart, Kym Hart, Robert Dickerson, Jeffrey Smart, Tim Storrier, Mark Hanham, Gillie and Marc, Bruce Earles, Colin Parker, Adam Cullen, Judy Cassab, Herman Pekel, Brett Whiteley, Sidney Nolan, John Coburn, Arthur Boyd, David Rankin, Geoffrey Proud, Radishka, Cheryl Petersen, Wendy Joyce, Peter Browne, Michael Jones, Paul Margocsy, Norman Lindsay, Ray Crooke, Constantine Popov, Kristie Stenning, Werner Filipich, Franz Krause, Margaret Olley and others.

INTERNATIONAL ART

Okay, so you’re not likely to find a $30,000,000 Picasso or a museum quality Rembrandt canvas at one of our auctions – it’s a bit out of our league – but you will find original lithographs, etchings, heliographs, offsets and limited edition prints by some of the most famous painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.

We offer works from a range of famous artists including: Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Nastya Rovenskaya, Erte, Gustav Klimt, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin, Louis Icart, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Edouard Manet, Jane Wooster-Scott, Leroy Neiman, Fernando de Jesus Oliveira, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Itzchak Tarkay and others.

ABORIGINAL ART

Long before the advent of European settlement, Aboriginal artists established a long and proud tradition of art that celebrated culture, customs and the landscape. Neglected and often dismissed, Aboriginal art has enjoyed a long overdue revival since the 80s and early 90s, and is now considered to be one of the most collectable art forms in the world today. Ranging in size from small pieces to oversize corporate commissions, all works are accompanied upon request with a certificate of provenance that includes a photo of the artist with the artwork.

Aboriginal artists we feature include: Gabriella Possum, Judy Watson, Charmaine Pwerle, Makinti Napanangka, Betty Club Mbitjana, Clarise Tunkin, Gloria Petyarre, Freda Price, Lily Kelly Jeannie Pitjarra, Anna Price Petyarre, Barbara Weir, Karen Bird, Ningura Napurrula, Yinarupa Nangala,  Kathleen Petyarre, Nellie Marks Nakamarra, Alice Granites, Marlene Young, Carolanne Ken, Abie Loy Kemarre, Thomas Tjapaltjarri, Michelle Possum, Jeannie Mills, Bernadine Johnson, Kay Baker, Barbara Baker, Maureen Hudson, Janet Golder, Samantha Daniels, Lynette Corby, Mitjili Napurrula, Margaret Lewis Napangardi, Lisa Mills, Mary Pitjara, Margaret Scobie, Bessie Pitjara, Rachael Nambula, Heather Long and others.

CHARLESTON’S IS AN OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE AUSTRALIAN AUCTIONEERS AND VALUERS ASSOCIATION.

Charleston’s was formed in 1997 by a group of like-minded individuals who shared a passion for art. We also had a common belief though art can be defined as “fine”, it doesn’t necessarily mean it should be elitist nor affordable only to investment bankers and multinational corporations.

By creating Australia’s first and, by far, most successful travelling art auction house, we regularly bring quality works of art to Australia’s capital cities and we are the only auction house that travels to major regional centres.

Whatever your reason to buy at a home contents auction, you can trust Charleston’s reputation for quality, authenticity and price – we don’t set the price, you do.

WHY BUY AT HOME CONTENTS AUCTION?

You buy at a Home Contents Auction for the same reasons you’d buy at any auction – great prices, great selections, lively online auction atmosphere and unearthed treasures.

Our customers tell us they buy at our home contents auctions because they are seeking quality items that are less expensive than buying them new or for retail.

Others tell us that they love to find vintage items, unique selections and get inspired to refine their home decorating ideas.

And some simply enjoy the entertaining online auction vibe and love the thrill of the chase, to win at auction.

HOW TO BUY AT A HOME CONTENTS AUCTION

Buying at a home contents auction is exactly the same as buying at any auction. You can inspect the merchandise once the catalogue is online, make some decisions and form a strategy.

Once the auction starts the show begins! Join our live stream and watch each lot sell  item-by-item as it goes  under the hammer. Once a lot you like is up for bidding, get ready – the fun begins!

WHY HOLD A HOME CONTENTS AUCTION?

Charleston’s invented home content auctions in Australia. We were the first to do them and are still considered the best at doing them.

We’ve held hundreds of home content auctions and have never had a dissatisfied vendor. We’d be happy to put you in touch with any vendors we’ve worked with so they can sing our praises.

We have helped all of them shift unwanted items, clear space, move on and make a profit. And every one of them has expressed at least a small element of surprise at just how profitable the auction has been.

Are you moving and want to sell unwanted household contents? Give us a call on 02 9318 2680 or 0414 567 329 or contact us here.
